when a picture sustains you

Two peas.

These two alternately fill me with so much love or drive me completely insane. They are contrarians. They are stubborn. They fight like cats and dogs. And yet when I view an image like this (which Nina took shortly before Craig left) I nearly ache with love for them. They had been picking at eachother, Craig trying to work the crossword, Grace trying to draw on the newspaper. They finally settled when Nina gave Grace her own paper, each of them working and yet attached.

Being a father brings out the best and worst in Craig (the same holds true for me as a mother). In his absence I wonder what he will think when he views this picture. Will he ache for his little girl as I do? She is so much a three and a half year old; negotiating with adults is such hard work and so frustrating.

Obviously I am missing Craig. Day five down. Eight more to go.
