Taking a walk

I'm going to to take a little break from blogging. Since the birth of my niece, Whitney, and her subsequent diagnosis and hospitalization, blogging has seemed sort of a stupid endeavor. Not stupid for those of you who read my blog or blog yourselves, just stupid for me.

Every time I write a story about my two healthy children my stomach twists. Whitney is sick, really, really sick, and her parents are exhausted and worried. Craig and I worry for them and simultaneously feel absolutely helpless because there is little if anything we can do for them. This has left me feeling as though writing blog entries probably isn't the best use of my time. Instead I'm going to get off the computer and spend that time loving my kids, playing with them, and holding Whitney so close in my heart.

When your loved ones are hurting, you want to help. You want to make the situation somehow better, and the knowledge that help is beyond your abilities is difficult to stand. Since we can't be in Indianapolis to bring Mike and Laura dinner or play with their older daughter, Anne, we're going to harness our energies in other ways. On October 18th we will be walking in a Down Syndrome Buddy Walk in honor of Whitney. If you are interested in learning more about this or sponsoring us, please email me directly.

I guess that's it. I hope you all--all 60 or so whom read here daily--can be patient with me. I'm sure I'll come back to the blogosphere soon. In the meantime hug your loved ones, tell them you love them, and go take a walk with your family.
