Teething, Take II

Grace had her bi-annual dentist appointment this morning, which proceeded as usual. She's a great little patient. She listens intently and follows directions to the letter. As the hygienist started to clean Grace's molars, she announced a surprise. Two of Grace's adult teeth, her 6 year old molars, have erupted.

The hygienist queried Grace, "did you know you were getting new teeth?"

"Nope."

Another tooth is loose, though I have no idea--or little memory--of how long it takes for a loose tooth to fall out. I seem to remember a tooth or two hanging by the teensiest bit of tissue and being scared witless that my brothers might pull it out. And I remember a neighbor convincing me to tie my loose tooth to the handle of a door, which she then proceeded to slam.

Grace is on the cusp of events like this, the stuff of elementary school memories. How can this be, when only five years ago my belly was swollen, filled with her tiny, kicking body?

.....

Not to be upstaged by her older sister, Julia has also reached a new milestone. She went pee-pee in the potty for the first time. Being our second child, Craig and I haven't even entertained the idea of potty training Julia. She's had to rely on Grace to take her to the potty when asked. I have no doubt that Julia's potty success will have little to do with Craig or me and will be the product of her own decision making and her sister's instruction.

.....

Tomorrow I'm packing the van and taking the girls to Savannah for an extended weekend. In a word, Craig's teaching schedule is INTENSE. He's had to pull more than one all-nighter just to stay ahead of the class, and the last thing he needs to worry about is family. By the time we return, he'll have only a week and a half left of instruction. I know he's ready to be done teaching, and I was ready for him to be done before he even started.

Enjoy your weekends.

Ellen, I always enjoy your pics from the aquarium. I would love to see it in person some day.

I cannot *believe* that Grace is into the teething pt. II phase. Why is it that those big ol' molars can come in and she doesn't even know it, yet when it happens as a toddler, it's pure torture?

Congratulations to Julia! I should take note...Jessi will do anything Noah tells her to do (except if it has the word "no..."). We've had so many leaky diapers this week (mostly #2) that I am SO READY for Jessi to take potty training seriously.

Have a wonderful time in Savannah! Poor Craig, at least he's almost done!
