3 seconds of fame at Beall's Hill Community Garden

Did you spot Julia? She spent most of the planting attached to my leg--that is until her partner in crime and neighbor, Sofia, showed up. Sofia tried to entice Julia to walk through the newly planted beds, but Julia didn't take the bait. Read the full story here.

Looks like you have a great group there! We've been floundering, with more parents buying houses along our block for their student-children. Our neighborhood is older -- perhaps I need to find some retired folks with time on their hands!
Is the garden in a vacant lot? Please keep posting!

P.S. Julia is adorable

The garden is in a large vacant lot behind a neighborhood church. The church donated the land and pays for the water (a huge thing when starting a community garden).

We too battle with renters v homeowners, and I cringe when I overhear people say things like "they should just give Beall's Hill to Mercer University and fill it with students." What those people don't know is that the last four houses that sold went to homeowners, not renters. Also, if the renters aren't good neighbors, we call the cops OFTEN.

We still have such a long way to go, but on days like yesterday it feels good to be out with my neighbors.
